Everglades Fly Fishing for Tarpon

Fly Fishing For Tarpon…..

I am lucky enough to have found one of the greatest sports on planet earth; fly fishing in saltwater. It is one of the most explosive, rewarding, and passionate things I have ever done in my life and I love to share these experiences with our clients. I mainly guide in Boca Grande, The Everglades, and The Marquesas.

Tarpon on the fly get all the glory and rightfully so; I grew up crazy about whitetail deer hunting and can only compare it to such an experience. Much like with hunting on land, you wait for long periods of time for tarpon to appear. But there is no trigger to be pulled to end this game of cat and mouse– instead, it is up to you to skillfully coax this 30 to 50-year-old swimming dinosaur weighing upwards of 150 pounds to eat a tiny little fly, usually smaller than a trout streamer. That is where the magic is for me: we can communicate with this animal through the materials we have tied onto a bare hook and watch how he reacts to it. With the perfect cast and a little twitch, wiggle, and luck, he swims over to the handmade fly and nonchalantly opens and closes his mouth and moves on. Then all hell breaks loose! He probably had the standing line from the deck of the skiff onto the reel and halfway to Mexico before you knew what happened. It’s simply amazing, I’m totally consumed by it, and you will be too. I’m lucky enough to get to guide clients in some of the greatest Tarpon fisheries on the planet.

Through Eleven we have brought together the best guides in the best places to create Tarpon magic year after year. It is hard work that will beat you down both physically and mentally but when it happens, no words can explain how magical it is. The rewards of a day well spent on the water are immeasurable.

If it were easy everyone would do it.
